Actually, a mass murder cleanup differs little from a violent homicide or suicide of a single victim. There's quite a bit of blood because by definition, a "mass murder" includes 3 or 4 victims, depending on whose definition prevails.
Most typically, though, a mass murder entails the intentional takinig of 4 or more human lives with malice aforethought. It may involve lying in wait. Often times, mass murders occur as the perpetrator or perpetrators move about their victims. Ambush mass murders do not occur that often in the United States.
With the powerful side-arms and automatic rifles available, mass murders have become quite quick and simple. Cold blooded, yes, but nonetheless a giant leap forwar, or backward, when it comes to murdering numerous people.
Almost daily our newspapers note how midde-aged mothers kill their entire family of 5, including themselves. In this case, the requisite number of 4 victims includes 3 children, husband, and of course, the wife. Her suicide makes such mass murders murder-suicide as a mass murder. Change the character and it's all the same, but for those precious lives lost to madness.
In the above example we see right away how mass murder differs from serial murderers and spree killers. Like a hunter, serial killers get some sort of kick out of stalking their victims. This should help tell us why celebrities become deeply concerned when stalked by admirerers. a serial killer may get some sort of sexual thrill from stalking his target.
Part of the kick enjoyed from this sort of behaivor arises from getting away with it. Some types of serial killers enjoy leaving clues on their murder scenes. In this way they reap the rewards of noteriety in corporate media.
A mass murderer knows beforehand that he/she has one sequence of acts to follow for success. Their ultimate outcome, their suicide following their killing episode. Once committed, they do not expect to come out alive; infact, coming out alive would negate their plan of action's success. They're making a statement and the don't want to be around to explain it.
Their maddnenss, be it momentary or a prolonged bout with sado-masachistic toughts, often adds to their overall inadequacies. Inadequate at some of life's demands, they ensure that no one will control their future or in any way add to their shame or humiliation in life.
As in suicide numbers, white males do the most mass murders. Hispanics also do a number of these, but not to the extent that white males commit themselves to performing. Hispanics may carry out a mass murder as part of a gang activity. Whites do so as a loner or a diad apart from other social groups. These diads become self-reinforcing and once commited, they have strong motivation to continue.
We find that mass murders in schools often have a perpetrator with an imagined grudge. The school's administration or even a single student will do as a target and trigger for the fulsilodge to follow. Often times a perpetrator picks a school they have familiarity with. When children do the shooting, other children may serve as their primary targets.
Frustration and anger eat away at perpetrators' emotional stability. Their mental health turns itself over to a mechanical mantra replaying some imagined personal injury or insult.
Choice of victims tells us about mass killers.
Profiles mislead, but for the mass murderer, the follow profile fits for many of these horrific crimes. White males from lower-middle-class families account for many mass murders. They do not arise form institutional settings. They are not typically orphanes as in so many suicides.
One object in their lives eats away at them. They set their expectations too high for their willingness to apply their skills, abilities, and knowledge. As a result they blame others for the failure to obtain their imagine goals. If this character reminds readers of illiterate white males with a desire to prosper, they've gone to far in the direction of inadequacies. Our profiled mass murderer has skills often used in government offices. Post Offices often come to mind, especially since affirmative action became law.
Hatred may dominate their primary emotional feelings toward a group or groups. In the case of racism or sexism, it's easy to see how their lives may easily lead to great frustration. They become most dangerous when they have a poor internal emotive power to appreciate other people, plants and animals. Gun lovers, of course, fit this image, but may easily misdirect attention. Plenty of gun lovers also do well socializing and enjoying a reverance for life.
They may have a political axe to grind, but have a poor education in the context of political knowledge. Stereotyping accounts for a great part of their political analysis. Incapable of critical thinking and a concrete analysis of concrete conditions, stereotypes serve them well.
Three types of mass murderers, the family annihilators, the paramilitary enthusiasts, and the disgruntled workers create a standard to follow. They all tend to be young, white, males with easy access to weapons. Unemployment, loneliness, a family breakup, or just a tongue lashing from a supervisor can trigger their deadly rage. Though a phenomenon usually related to postal workers, it's becoming commonplace in high schools throughout the U.S., as well as in the Red Army in the former Soviet Union. Strangely, Australians and New Zealanders are also prone to sudden fits of lethal madness. Most rampagers tend to save the last bullet for themselves. Those that don't are usually declared legally insane.
